Greetings and Salutations!
Having recently purchased two of these 8420 sets for the new wheels and the new
tension adjustable shocks, I was checking out the travel and adjustable spring
tension when I noticed the shock locking into a half extended position. I
further experimented with said shock, observing both shocks behaved the same
way, that if I compressed the shock fully it then locked into the half extended
return, then,  fully compressing the shock again, it changed to full extended
mode. If I did not fully compress the shock it stayed in either the half
extended mode or the full extension mode. These occurs wether the shock is in
high tension setting or low tension setting. Full compression seems to be the
trigger for the extension change.
It appears we could create a shock mounting system that doesn't allow the
shock to fully compress, thus keeping it in half extension mode, say for a low
rider car/low slung motorcycle frame or to keep it in a full extension mode for
a high clearance off road truck/car or motorcross bike style with more travel.
The instructions "sorta" indicate this setting but it's unclear as they are
also showing the tension adjustment. In my test the tension setting does not
change the extension mode.
So.. My question is this... does this give us a new nifty shock that will allow
us to configure it for different applications or is this a flaw in the design?
Just thought I would ask for input before I called Shop@home for replacements
if, in fact, they are "supposed" the behave this way

Thanks!!

John

This seems to be an intended feature, as in my instruction set it shows that
feature of the shock.  I was not aware of the adjustability of them, will have
to check into that.

My shock was also dark blew in color and not yellow like the box and
instructions show.  Probably a last minute color change, or use of existing
production materials.

I got mine at the McLean, VA lego store today, and would assume all others
purchased in the near future will be the same.
