Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there has found a good place to buy lego • sets and parts in Canada. I want to buy several parts such as pneumatics and
turntables, but Dacta does not ship to Canada! Also, one of these days, I want
to buy a super car set, but buying one on ebay and shipping it to Canada would
be very pricey. Are there any other Canadian Lego maniacs out there???
Rob

Rob,

As a fellow Canadian Lego fan I must say I empathasize with you.  Canada seems
to be a 'backwater' when it comes to Lego (compared to the U.S.).  For
example, I had to buy the 8480 Space Shuttle on ebay from a nice fellow from
California for $105 USD because they were never sold in Canada except through
S@H (Mike - if you're reading it was worth it!!!).  Then I read that smart
Lego collectors in the U.S. can buy 8480s on sale for $50 at their stores and
then sell them on ebay for twice what they paid - who can blame them?

Unfortunately Lego recently closed their Canadian distribution warehouse in
Markham (north of Toronto) and now operate out of a small office - so all Lego
distribution and S@H for Canada now operates out of Enfield, Connecticut.  The
Lego company's presence in Canada is strictly administrative and I think
selection may suffer as a result.  Actually, the Lego company is consolidating
worldwide distribution operations where possible so smaller markets (like
Canada) might suffer when it comes to selection in stores.

(I did, by the way, get the 8448 Supercar from S@H for roughly $230 CDN (!) -
Yes, I wanted it that bad!  To my knowledge it has yet to hit stores in
Canada.)

Everything other Lego set I've wanted, I've had to turn to ebay.  Wal-Mart,
Zellers and Toys-R-Us are very average in my opinion but it's the best we
have.  I'm not knocking our Lego friends in the U.S., but that's the
unfortunate reality of being a Canadian Lego junkie.

Cheers,  Chris.
