I believe John Barnes (of HiTechnic) is the source, but they were never made
publically available - the ones Jen used were made specially for her as a trial.
I'm not sure if he's still considering making them, but you could try emailing
him at BARNES at SENSORS dot COM.

Is it possible to set two lego 9v motors together so their total power would be more than 9v? (20 years ago, 1-Aug-04, to lugnet.technic)
