Re: LEGO makes Bionicle film, Premiere 2003

(...) Agreed. Though to be completely honest, they DID take some liberties in the CG versions. The arms and legs can bend, the heads can turn, they can stick their weapons on their back. In effect I guess the sets are "action figure" versions of the (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jan-02, to lugnet.technic.bionicle)

  Re: 4WD + central steering

(...) It is very simple. The two body parts are simply hinged together by using axles. In the centre, there is an opening in which an universal joint resides, transfering the power from the motor to the front axle. The steering is done by using a (...) (23 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.technic)

Re: LEGO makes Bionicle film, Premiere 2003

The toys were designed along with the story. They are not "here's what it would look like made of Legos" they ARE the Toa. That's why they looked like that in every other thing ever made of them in CG. There's no point to the masks, the Turaga, (...) (23 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.technic.bionicle)

Re: LEGO makes Bionicle film, Premiere 2003

(...) I do not follow Bionicle very much so I don't know the plot on the CD. But if the CG on the CD is like the ones in the adverts, then a movie of this would be good as a mini series on CITV. However in my opinion the Bionicle franchise is worth (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.technic.bionicle)

  Re: 4WD + central steering

(...) Using feedback, it should be fairly easy. I once tried this with the current switches, and it sorta worked, but the "dead spot" is way too big, and those switches need so much force to move! It was harder to turn the steering to operate the (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: 4WD + central steering

I do like that 'swivel hips' idea with the turntable, it would save me alot of unneccesary bother! I couldn't find a scan of the 8459 central steering design, so if someone could describe it in a little more detail I'd be very grateful Cheers Robin (...)   Re: 4WD + central steering

(...) Admittedly I'm not too experienced with penumatics. But I think it would be hard to achieve the precision needed for fine control with plastic/rubber switches. And the quality control needed to fine tune every switch so that they behave (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: 4WD + central steering

(...) Yeah, the main problem is the switches - if TLC would make a nice sliding pnuematic switch (similar to steam engine valve), pnuematic steering (and lots of other neat stuff) would become much easier. ROSCO (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: 4WD + central steering

(...) BTW, I think that it is probably fun to build a vehicle with pneumatically operated steering, and it looks cool. But for the precise control required by a steering system, I don't think the pneumatic cylinders are adequat. They are great for (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.technic)
