After purchasing LOTS of Iris drawer units and sorting my collection, I
can't imagine going back to the Rubbermaid tubs and ziploc bags I had
before.  It took almost a half an hour to haul out the tubs, open them all
up and arrange them in such a way that I had quick access to them.  With the
Iris system, I can get to anything within a few seconds.

This is important because I find that when I'm building, I'll conjure many
different solutions to problems in my head.  Finding the pieces to try it
out quickly is paramount so I don't forget the idea.  Having everything
sorted enables me to build more, search less, and spend the majority of my
time waiting for inspiration to strike.

But hey, whatever clicks your brick!   :-)

I have begun going the same way. I have been buying up Plano boxes and
sorting my sorted ziplock bags into them. So far I have about a third of my
collection moved to this solution (it is not cheap but I think it is worth
it) and I find it a lot easier to find what I am looking for. I still keep
the ziplock bags and bins for my overflow (for those parts that would be a
waste of Plano box space to keep every single one in the box when I tend not
to use all that I have at any given time (e.g. 1x1 bricks in basic colors).

My biggest problem is deciding on a solution for the parts that don't fit
into the Plano boxes. So far I am planning on using the shoebox sized
Rubbermaid containers I gathered when my collection was much smaller but I
am keeping my options open for an even better solution.

Once I get the whole thing sorted, I am planning on labeling all my boxes
with an index number and then I can make a quick database that I can search
for parts even faster, kinda my own off-line version of Peeron but instead
of sets, I will know which box the part is in. This will give me the
flexibility of changing the way I sort without having to constantly relabel
my containers.
