There's an old running gag in Model Railroading circles: you can tell the
diehard MRR on a househunting trip, because the first thing he(1) does is
check out the basement to see how the columns are laid out and where the
furnace room is and how the power is arranged and so forth... after all the
sole function of a house is to keep rain from getting into the basement and
ruining the layout.
You'll never get me to admit that I used basement related criteria in our
last househunting trip, but we DO have a large high ceilinged and dry
basement that is perfect for storage.
1 - since this story originated in the 1940s it's always a 'he'...
