Just to share with the group... I've posted to Brickshelf the following pics of
a Y-Wing that I recently completed:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=1602

My apologies for the qualities of the pics...I checked out a digital camera from
the school where I work, but it proved to be less than adequate for the task.  I
made a few subtle changes to the design of the ship (because, as the Incredible
Cross-Sections book states, these ships have been repaired and modified so many
times, that no two are alike in all respects any longer.)  As I said, the camera
proved to be less than I had hoped, so not a lot of detail is evident, esp. one
aspect that I had hoped to show - When I first saw the new engine ring nacelles
that are used on the UCS X-Wing, I new that they would be (almost) perfect for
adaptation on a Y-Wing, and, being hollow, they would also allow the inclusion
of the thrust flaps.  The only problem is that they only have two points of
connection, so fixing them to the new Y-Wing technic struts would be
problematic.  I approached the problem with the philosophy that less is more,
and so I finally settled on the use of Technic rubber bands to secure the ring
to the side struts.  The solution is not detrimental to the design, IMO, and I'm
quite pleased with the results, although they can scarcely be made out in the
pics.  Anyway, this MOC doesn't hold a candle to Thad Jantzi's version, but I'm
still pretty happy with the results.

Very well done! I never liked the TLG version of the Y-wing because it had so many flaws. Yours is built really good to scale. The cockpit is bigger and holds 2 :) And your R2 unit is placed correctly. This entire thing just looks yummie. Greetz, (...) (24 years ago, 16-Oct-00, to lugnet.starwars)
