I agree that Science is a character in his books, but if you compare the portrayal of Science and
scientists in any Chrichton book to, say, Carl Sagan's books (like Contact) you will see what I am
talking about. Everything that happens in Chrichton's books is the fault of scientists... Ian
Malcom is very obviously Chrichton's voice in JPtB, and he is always ranting about how scientists
never understand anything about the real world and don't care about the effects of what they do... a
rediculous position for anyone who has had any dealings with the scientific community to take.

But in the book, EVERYONE is a greedy minded person... even the little girl in the very beginning of
the book gets a decidedly skewed description if I remember correctly and her parents are rich
bastards; Hammond is a Bastard, Malcom is a Jerk who is ALWAYS Right! despite the fact that he is
always saying how unpredictable the world is, somehow he can predict the entire plot of the book;
The Paleontologist and Paleobotanist (don't remeber their names) are not particularly endearing in
any fashion... I've read many of his books (Congo, The Andromeda Strain, JP, TLW, Sphere) and I've
come to the conclusion that he really doesn't know anything about human nature... all of his
characters are charicatures of people: here is the person, and here is this person's Big Major Flaw
(TM) that permiates his/her very existance and negates anything good that they might do... The only
characters that are immune to this are the characters that embody Chrichton's own voice and only
because their arrogance is proven correct at the end of each book. This skewed preception leads me
to believe that Chrichton himself is very much like these terribly selfish characters that he
creates, because he doesn't know how to write characters that are any different.
To better see what I'm trying to say, Compare any Chrichton book to Orson Scott Card... Card's
characters are real people... Good people (at least in their own eyes) who do have flaws, but strive
to do the right thing (from their point of view!) regardless... Thus even the "bad Guys" in Card's
writing can be understood and empathised with to a certain degree once the reader understand's their
motives.

No the latest parts release with the new SW parts.
