I just got back from the mid-night release of EP1 merchandise at the toy
department of one of our biggest retail chains here - DEKA. We all know DEKA
right kids? It was quite cool, a bit of hype before hand and a demonstration of
the new figures from Hasbro with their computer chips etc.
Considering I've only seen about 15 individual Classic sets in stores here, it
was wicked to see all the new EP1 sets - I thought they might not be here in
time! They had some pre-assembled in the foyer area - my initial impression was
very positive - so that's cool. Very much 'pre-christmas' apprehension! (There
was an X-wing that was apparently pre-assembled and glued in Denmark - with
it's cannons pointing backwards! Maybe that was a design consideration after
all the trouble they had with Tie fighters blasting the Rebel craft from behind
in the Death Star trenches...)

A couple of things I noticed:

- The Sith Fighter looks kinda flat, with hardly any deviation in thickness
from nose to cockpit. As far as scale goes I'm glad it is not to scale b/c here
it goes for app. $50 US. If it was bigger it would sink me financially (if I
can sink any lower) The Darth Maul minifig is seriously funky! When I first saw
his little speeder thing, he looked set for the retirement village scooter
races!! (I look forward to those!)

- The Gun-gan Sub was very cool too but I don't think the 'tail' was very well
'resolved' - still a great set. It also appeared quite 'flat' as if it needed
some sort of 'undercarriage'.

I only bought the Naboo Swamp at this stage - but I really like it! Qui Gonn is
cool and I reckon you could make a pretty good George Lucas minifig with that
boofy hair! It was quite hefty on price though - $16 US app.

I can't wait to purchase the Mos Espa Pod Race - oh for display room...

Ben.
