I don't have the AT-TE set (yet) but you can get 2 of the the ball joints in
the Geonosian Fighter set...they are pretty sturdy, and have a bit more
resistance than the technic ball and sockets.
The attachment point on the ball is relatively small (2x2 'studprint'), tho. If
you want anything with mass (large arm, for example), you'll have to use a
technic axle slid into it for support.
