Not having any of the Technic ball and sockets that you mentioned, could not
compare their strength thereof. The ball is actually in two halves and has
changed from the boxed pic to the actual one that has four depressions for
studs.

The connectors of the legs to the body looks like they're straight 1x3
liftarm with the round coupling hinge at the end. Don't remember any part
like this. Hope that helps.
