Good article, Paul.  I'm glad to see that someone else endorses the
half-stud as much as I do.  I've found that in many of my models, the
most appropriate size for minifig scale sections is an *odd* number of
studs across - particularly 7 or 9.  This works fine on its own until
you need it to interact with a "standard" size.  A good example of this
is a 7-wide train that still needs to run on standard LEGO track in that
case, you want a 1/2 stud offset on each side so that the wheelsets
remain centered.

Long live the 1x2 tile w/ center stud!
