Have you tried to balance the guns better by moving the point of balance
forward? (And maybe raising it a bit to make room for tilting) As far as I
ought to be able to move it as far ahead as just behind the barrels...?

There’s only one place to connect things to the guns because of their
construction unfortunately, though the click hinges may work.

I was thinking something about shifting the black wheel-like cylinders just
behind the barerls into some of the round (technic) parts with studholes on the
side, like 41531 (used in some subaqua) or the similar parts with an axlehole on
the side (like the ones that came with the big X-wing: I don’t have them right
with me)

You could also consider using clickhinges or the new technic balljoints
(these would enable some slight horizontal adjustments as well).

I don’t have any technic balljoints, though I really wish I did.

They’re avalible in a HP-set (4727) which is on sale at various places here in
Copenhagen...
