It's time to drive there and get them!

Chuck Grey is departing for the Red Planet, on a mission to bring back Biff
and Sandy.  He's going to make the long journey in the {Friendship 2004},
drop to the surface in the lander, and bring them back.

Tony,
This thing seriously rocks.  Easily the best MOC i've seen in a while.

Wow, thanks a lot!

I personally am a big fan of realistic scifi - so this really hits a special
place for me.

Ahhh... Lenny's special place.

I can't wait for the better interior pics - or to be able to see this in
person!

I'm not going to BrickFest, but I might still have it when NWBrickCon comes
around.  I do hope to get better interior pics soon, but it will probably be
close to a week.

How stable is it?

Stable... ah, yes.  Well, it isn't.  The lander is pretty good, though the
alignment bricks between the two stages tend to fall off when you separate
stages.  The main ship stands OK on its nose, but the engines are too unstable
for it to stand well on its tail.  If you look closely, you might see that in
the picture where it is upright, the engines have been removed.  It doesn't even
like to lay on its side because of its odd protrusions combined with the long
and narrow studs-up construction.  If I don't trash it soon, I'll probably build
a stand that holds it mostly horizontal.

Was it based on any official NASA design?

No, I just extended the concept of the moon shots and tried to adapt it for more
modern technology (ie orbital assembly) and the different destination.  I'm
pretty sure I I didn't put in nearly enough room for air, water, food, or fuel.
And there isn't enough room for exercise.  And it probably needs some good way
of venting heat and protecting the crew from radiation...
