Hi all,
Many of those in LUGNET have wondered what was up with SciBrick...the
organization had a few postings on its discussion board, there was a debut event
in Houston, then...nothing.
Since Houstons Challenger Center Gala, which happened in October, there has
been some events that have happened that have directly affected SciBrick, of
which the biggest was the stepping down of Felix Greco as SciBrick
Communications Officer. Felix stepped down to take time and attention to his
dissertation and further education, and will be missed here, as his work and
dedication to SciBrick made its debut event very successful.
In his place, I have been appointed the new Communications Officer. Before that,
I was Website Coordinator, and have been occupied getting that organized. So I
am happy to announce that Scibricks website is now online
here.
SciBricks mission hasnt changed. In fact, its expanded. SciBrick will become
the LEGO organization for Science Fiction and Fantasy, and will be in time, a
group that will be able to provide its members and their creations a central
point to plan displays in conventions, meetings, and other venues not previously
conceived.
SciBrick will be involved in upcoming conventions, including both Brickfests
next year and members are thinking of contests and other ways of getting people
involved with Science Fiction and Fantasy displays.
Some other ideas that are being looked at are:
theme-based kits under the SciBrick name, like PCS ships.
movie tie-in displays
Displays in museums
Member materials (shirts, etc.)
There will be a lot to do and plan, so SciBrick is also now looking for new
members to join. You can go to the SciBrick site and
see the membership requirements in the
FAQ page and also the current
roster of members.
I, as Communications Officer, will always be open to suggestions and comments
from the community. Drop a line to my e-mail address above, and I will answer as
soon as possible.
So SciBrick is here! Many thanks to the members and those who have helped me
out!
