All and all the Scarab is a triumph of technological design and • fanciful form.

Building Notes:
This MOC started when the MUGS were splitting up a couple of 4730's (HP
Chamber of Secrets) and no-one really wanted the roof pieces.  Ross
Crawford pointed out that the pieces could possibly be used in a rocket, in
his attempt to get Paul Baulch or myself to take them and the challenge
began.   A few failed attempts at using the roof slopes at the nose of a
model led me to try using them as a engine mount and this model began to
take shape.  At the time I had very little in Sand Green and this model has
used quite a bit of what I had.

it was an interesting experiment either way

An interesting AND successful experiment!  Using the roof pieces as a tapered
mount looks great and compliments the smooth lines of the rest of the
model.  It
has echoes of Paul Hartzog's Mako about it (and excellent thing)....the
modular
look comes off well too.

Great build.

Thanks Gil.  I never realised how similar my MOC was to the Mako.  isn't
that interesting...
The modular look was kinda necessary because of the nature of mounting the
roof slopes the way I did, and because I needed to use those sand green
curves upside-down.  but it did seem to fit well with the model.  When I
built it I was worried that the front landing gears would be unable to
support the weight of the MOC but it turns out that is balanced just right
so that it only needs the middle mount.  You can see in this pic that the
front mounts are not flat on the ground

just to show you what I mean.

It, all in all, balanced out nicely  :-)
