One way to increase the friction on a single plate motion (like a swing-wing
aircraft for example) is to use 2 of them...one on top and one on bottom
with the plate sandwiched between. Surround the turntable on the bottom
surface with tiles and the swinging, middle plate becomes a little less free
to move.
Of course, the best way around is to mount technic bricks sideways via SNOT
and use friction pins, but this doesn't always fit the design.
