I think you should try more non-traditional building if you are not
satisfied with this design. SNOT can do ALOT. Whoa new motto. Anyway, I'd
say just experiment, most of my best MOCs come from taking a few parts and
tring to figure out new and visually pleasing ways to connec them.
As for the MOC, I think you relied too much on the 2 x 3 slopes. The colors
are good, but you might try to get away from the boxy look more.
