Hey that's very effective. Well done.
Ah, the ol' 555 astable timer circuit. You know, it's not such a great leap
from what you did to making your own circuit board. You could probably make
one about half the size of your perf board if you did. I made one last year
for a bike headlight with two modes (2Hz and about 200Hz) and the circuit
board measured about 1x2cm. You can get kits from your local electronics
store - I got one from Dick Smith Electronics here in Aus for about AU$30.
They're pretty simple to make really.
