Hello Don,

I'm having trouble downloading the patched firmware.  Robolab doesn't have a
.lgo file anywhere in the program directory structure, so I don't have a
filename to replace with the patched file.  Downloading in Robolab seems to
work, but I see no indication it's using the patched file.

I think RoboLab uses its own firmware, so patching FIRM0328.LGO won't help you
unless you use the RIS programming environment.  (Or NQC, but that apparently
isn't allowed by FIRST?)

The retail RIS software has a file named firm0309.lgo, which I replaced with the
patched firm0328.lgo, but the download failed.  It didn't say why.

firm0309.lgo is firmware from RIS 1.5, while firm0328.lgo comes from RIS 2.0.
Maybe RIS 1.5 can't download 2.0 firmware, never tried that...

I've used FIRM0328.LGO with older (version 1.0) RCXes and never had a problem.
The RIS downloader should be able to handle this as well.  It is highly unlikely
that you can apply the patch as written to the FIRM0309 file, so make sure you
patched the correct version of the .LGO file.  Also, quadruple-check that you
performed the patch procedure correctly, as a poorly-formed .LGO file will
probably not download in any case.

I see no utility in the SDK to do this.  What procedure do you suggest?
I suggest you download BricxCC from
http://members.aol.com/johnbinder/bricxcc.htm and use its download utility
(located in Tools menu)

There could be many reasons why the download failed, including low batteries in
a serial IR tower or in the RCX, light interference, or just bad luck.  Make
sure you don't have more than one RCX turned on when you do the download,
either!  But it is definitely worth trying BricxCC to see if you have better
luck there.
