Hello Don,

Did you had a look to my analysis of this problem
(http://www.philohome.com/sensors/legorot.htm)? But unfortunately I don't think
that my modification is "competition-legal"...

I agree that sampling can occur at the wrong time, but this should not occur
more often at low rotation speed, and I think the probability is really low.
After adding the filtering capacitor the sensor worked much more reliably !

Yes, I did read your information.  It was very helpful - the best stuff I found
on the subject.  But as you said, modifying the sensor would probably
disqualify.

But, that does make me think again about the recent unavailability of the part .
. . and a hardware solution would not increase the time a sample takes, which is
the problem with my software solution.

Regarding low speed, I did find that moving back and forth at low speed caused
the problem almost immediately.  On the other hand, running the motor at
Robolab's "level 1", stopping every 2 rotations would cause the problem
typically after about 30-40 rotations (but this varied a _lot_).  So it seems to
me that either slow rotation or direction reversal increased the frequency of
the problem.  But, even at faster speeds, it would drop enough counts that using
the sensor to track the distance a robot travels would be a game of chance.
