Hello,
as I begin to appearch dangerously the 32 variables limit of nqc on a
current project, I have started to approach LegOS.
After some apparently common problems, I managed to compile the h8300
programs and compile legOS 0.2.2. The demos work as well a simple program I
made to read the light sensor. So far OK.
Congratulations to Markus and co. It looks very good.
Still it seems to me that any serious work with legOS (that is in
particular, work for which nqc is no more adequate) would require a
debugging tool by which one can survey in real time from the computer any
desired variable on the RCX. Something like what we have in RcxCC for nqc.
I found that legOS 0.1.7 had a demo tm-and-ir.c which shows how to send data
by IR to the computer. Can this also work in legOS 0.2.2 ? I did not
manage to compile it.
Has anyone managed to send variable values to the PC ? What program to use
on the computer side to read the variables ?
My programming knowledge is quite poor as far as serial com (or any
communication) goes, but if I find a good code example I could try to wrap
around some Tcl-tk code to obtain a result similar to the mentioned RcxCC.
With some decent debugging facility I am sure that legOS programming may
really explose in the MS community.
I feel that may an area where some cooperative effort may well complement
the basic work of legOS developing. Any proposals ... ?

| (...) Lorenzo, i also just started with legOS and just thought about exactly the same issue. I'm wondering, if anyone has tried to run gdb in remote mode on the RCX. Imho, this would be the perfect solution... I've never ported gdb-remote to a new (...) (25 years ago, 23-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)
