Hi Kenneth,
I can't add to your list, but have had some experience with Lejos which I
recommend highly.    You can find more about it at
http://www.lugnet.com/robotics
The latest version, (1.03 beta) which you can download from that site, has
more features and smaller footprint than the previous one.  It has pretty
much made TinyVM obsolete.  The strength of Lejos is that it uses Java so
you get all the benefits of an object language plus many useful Java
features such as threads, listeners, and interfaces.   About the only useful
part of Java not implemented is garbage collection, so you must be careful
about creating new temporary objects.  The objects that wrapper the
underlying ROM routines and hardware are well designed and AFAIK allow you
to do anything that can be done with the hardware.  A nice debugging feature
is the display on the LCD when the program quits because of an error or
exception.  You can also display the amount of free memory available.  RCX 2
RCX communications is possible, but a generic networking protocol has not
part of Lejos.
Try it, you'll like it.

hi all, i realise this is not strictly legOS related, but you guys are the
best source i have so i thought id give it a shot anyways.

Im trying to list all the options i have for changing the original "OS" and
firmware. so far i have:

NQC         (doesnt replace the original firmware)
Pbforth
legOS       (my favorite :)
DAT2      (which i know nothing about)
leJOS       (java based and quite new as i understand it, haven tried it yet)
TinyVM (also java based)

have i missed any?
also, does anyone here have experience with any of these (xept for legOS
which i use myself :) and if so, perhaps an url for more information on
these systems?

what im looking for is an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of
these systems. (this is part of my thesis and id like to compile a list of
available options)
