Do you just add the sensor, or do you also change the program?

No!

I'd rather see what causes this behaviour first, before making
some kludge to stop it.

PS: I'm also playing with the line tracker for the WS3D competition.
PPS: Did you know that the power setting affects braking?
The current API masks this somewhat, as the call to stop
sets the power level to 7.
