Please pardon the interruption, as this is probably a bit off-topic, and is
more a distraction than a contribution at this point. ;-)

I've been looking in the various LUGNET forums, hoping to find a link to a
good page of clues for using the RCX in a Train display. So far, I've come up
empty for that. (If you have a few favorite URLs for this, I'd really love to
see them...and I'll summarize them back to the list.)

I've found a few interesting threads, and some articles with hints about
projects (using an RCX as a DCC controller, controlling motorized switch tracks,
and a lighted/motorized crossing gate), but there *MUST* be many more that I'm
missing among the many other 'robotics' links. Again, if you know of other
projects, maybe you can find them better using people's or event names, and I'd
love to get pointers to appropriate LUGNET article or web pages. :-)

Finally, there are some of the 'intangibles', the things that make a LUGNET
search spew many answers or none at all...things like a comparison between the
various programming languages (NQC and others), comparisons about which code to
use on the brick itself, tips about how to have a program detect if the external
power is connected and working, and discussions about battery life and what can
cause your program to need reloading "in the field" at a public display (and how
you handle that), "how many train motors can you run from an RCX output (and
why)", and "can I power more train motors if I use the outputs in parallel?".

I'll keep digging for articles, but I figured it was now time to appeal to the
experts, and the long-timers in the group, as well as the RCX Dudes for some of
the LUGs/LTCs for their help. (I've been good about documenting things using web
pages, and I've got three articles on the ILTCO web now as well. I promise that
I will share any useful information that I find in this quest. :-)

Reply to the group if you like, or directly to me. (If direct email use
Zonker at both domains; baylug.org and bigbandnet.com )

   Thanks

(...) What can you do with an RCX? That doesn't sound very off-topic. :) (...) One name to start with: Brian Alano. He's a member of IndyLUG, and he's done some amusement park rides, and things like that. (...) Most of these things you can ask about (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jul-04, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
