  ROM of RCX 2.0?

Hi, has anybody taken a look at the ROM of the RCX 2.0? Are there any significant changes? I'm looking in particular for changes in addresses of routines or data areas that could lead to interoperability problems. Jürgen (24 years ago, 16-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  (MS)2 Expander Web Site Updated

I've updated my website with some changes to the building instructions for the (MS)2 Expander that might make it easier to build.   Re: As promised - Mecha using RCX with MacNQC - Draft 1.

I think you're off to a good start! You mention some problems that I think can be overcome, others I'm not sure about... but I'll offer my two cents anyway... (...) a) what's your gear reduction ratio? I see a worm gear in there, which is about the (...) (24 years ago, 11-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: As promised - Mecha using RCX with MacNQC - Draft 1.

(...) I like the design, but as with most RCX-based walkers, it looks, well, 'clunky'. I realize this can't be helped considering the nature of what it is you are working with. I, too, have been working on a walker of this nature and have met with (...) (24 years ago, 11-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.robotics.rcx)

As promised - Mecha using RCX with MacNQC - Draft 1.

Hi, well some weeks ago I promised that I'd begin a project of developing a Mech incorporating the RCX unit, some motors and sensors. Here is my very first attempt at a minifig scale Mech: (URL) RCX is programmed using MacNQC and at this stage only (...) (...) "Definitive Guide" had a sentence or two suggesting rechargeable alkalines. I didn't go into any detail about the tradeoffs, though. I'm still waiting for "Mr. Fusion" :) Dave (24 years ago, 10-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Thanks to everyone who responded to this. As is usually the case on the web there was unanimous consent for ... Only kidding. I haven't yet decided how to go on this.   RCX 2.0 Difference

I have got both an RCX1.0 and RCX2.0 unit. The RCX2.0 has a much less sensitive IR port. I would use the remote control to send messages and start and stop programs and to trigger motors. With the RCX1.0 the remote could be pointed at the unit and (...) (24 years ago, 7-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: Rechargeable Batteries

(...) Roger, I believe the low voltage is more important. A side issue is the battery indicator that you access through NQC (or Robolab) set up in a scale of 0-9 volts. Fully charged alkalines are 9+ and discharged ones are 6 volts. With NiMH full (...) (24 years ago, 6-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: Rechargeable Batteries

(...) They have a higher voltage of about 3V and are tricky to charge, if you don't do it right they have a tendency to explode. I've never seen standalone cells and charger. Jürgen (24 years ago, 6-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

(...) I use NiMH and get a voltage between 7.8V freshly charged and 7V at the low end (i.e. slightly higher than NiCd). The lower voltage is not really a problem for me.   Re: Specs for Mindstorms gearmotor?

I have pictures of the inside of the gear motor in chapter 7 of my book, "Creative Projects with LEGO Mindstorms".   Re: Rechargeable Batteries

Hi Frank; Do you have a 1.0 RCX? If so you can do what I did. I used 3 4.5v battery rods with NiMh (9 total) and a custom wire to power my RCXs. It works great for me because I am using multiple RCXs off one power source (I have removed the RCX AA (...) (24 years ago, 4-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: Rechargeable Batteries

(...) Nicads have a lower cell voltage (1.2 rather than 1.5), so they won't work very well in the RCX. Personally I use rechargeable alkaline cells (e.g. Ray-o-vac Renewal batteries). The downside to rechargeable alkalines are that they don't have (...) (24 years ago, 3-Aug-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
