Usually AC will either say AC or have a ~ symbol. DC will either say DC or have a symbol that looks like = or _-_ -Rob A> (...) (18 years ago, 10-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

(...) _ALWAYS_ assume DC on an actual power adapter (at least in the US). Most AC devices will just use a simple cord, like you'd find on a portable stereo. (...) The one used for the RCX may be, but the NXT power supply is sold as a different item, and is listed as a 10VAC adapter vs. the 9VAC adapters used by trains and various other systems.
