The DDK is very disappointing. In my mind it marks a low-point in LEGO's
consumer understanding - and the "Mindstorms" branding. The expansion sets
were over-priced and under-delivered on their (our) expectations for the RIS,
but the DDK is definately the nadir of the sets. If it had come with the
Scout controller it would have been 500% better received!

What can you do with one light sensor and one motor? Not much, and the
"7 built in programs" very nicely displays THAT fact. The only expansion
for this set is to get a real controller like the RDS ($150) to really do
something with it. If you really _must_ jump in now, get the "Robotics
Discovery Set" with the Scout controller, its a fun kit. Otherwise, I would
save my shekels and get the RIS!

| The Droid developer kit certainly isnt worth it if you are a avid mindstorms user. It is desinged for younger children (officaly 9-12, but some 7 or 8 year old could do fine with it). For this it is a perfect set, easy to use and build but (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics.microscout)
