  Handyboard in the U.K.

I'm just getting started into robotics and have spent the last weekend going over the archived mailing list (big isn't it?!). It has certainly whetted my appetite. I've lashed together a rudimentary 6811 board and have since discovered the (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Ok, the Ultrasonic Docs are up http://www.vnet.net/wizorg/wizorg.html

Howdy all, I've gone ahead and put up the Ultrasonic Ranging System documentation and schematics on my web page: (URL) Hope it helps someone! John (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: sonar (fwd)

Just to add a basic newbie note on receiver blanking that will have to be designed in if you build it yourself. A transmit pulse is a very powerful (relatively speaking) pulse. For example, the Polaroid transducer, about the size of a silver dollar, (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Used Handy Boards

(...) Can't offer much wisdom at this time since we are at the same place as you. Decided on Handyboard, saw three different suppliers in the HB stuff at MIT, and will decide this week which to buy. We're using Polaroid sonar, IR, and bumper (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Strange Problem???

(...) you don't have to do it manually? I have one. it's attached, and was made by my friend. It stands for IBM-To-UNIX. I have also it's companion, UNIX-To-IBM ;) cya! (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Steel-Tec Sale

Thought that you might me interested to know that Kay-Bee toys is having a nice sale on Steel-Tec sets. They're kinda like Erector sets. A bunch of straps of metal with holes in them. A 1000 some piece set is selling for about $20! That includes (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: sonar

I haven't actually priced them, but I would imagine that used Polaroid Cameras aren't that expensive. I assume that this uses the same unit that everyone is talking about. It might be worth a trip to your local pawn shop to save some money. My (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: sonar (fwd)

(...) Garth, To get a detailed idea about the device electronics, call (617)386-3965, Polaroid Corp., OEM Components Group. They will give you FREE literature on this. I imagine that it will help you if you want to investigate making your own (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: sonar

(...) yes. the polaroid board is pretty sophisticated, really, in that it ramps up the input gain the longer it waits for the ultrasonic reflection pulse. this compensates for the exponential falloff in "volume" as sound disperses on the way out and (...)   Re: sonar

(...) No, you are correct. The sonar parts that Digikey and All Electronics and others offer are just the sensor and transducer. Polaroid seems to make a package with all ranging electronics included. I read an article (by Chuck McManis if memory (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

There is ONE transducer and a ranging (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  IR communication

I want to get five handyboards to talk to each other using infrared transmission... I use infrared transmitter/receiver reflectance sensors for other things... 1) What parts (I need distributer and part number) do I need to get and can I hook up 4 (...)   Re: sonar

you can get similar units from all electronics corp. for $2.50/pair. there was an issue of the robotics practitioner magazine that gave circuits for using them with the time-of-flight ranging method. colby --- Garth Webb wrote: I was paging through (...)   Re: Strange Problem???

Never mind. I found it in the FAQ. P.S. Has anyone created a program to change the ^M and ^J automatically so you don't have to do it manually? (28 years ago, 17-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Strange Problem???

I downloaded "sonar.icb" from the "kent" directory. Upon loading it to the HB, I got "error in .s19 file" with an exit out of IC. After some investigation, I noticed something... I can view all icb files perfectly in WordPad. When I tried to view (...) (28 years ago, 17-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  sonar

I was paging through the digikey catalog and found some pairs of ultrasonic transducers and recievers for about $12 a pair. Does anyone know where I can get information regarding setting these up for sonar, either from their own experience or (...) (28 years ago, 17-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  catalogs and sonar devices

How do I get this catalog you are talking about? We need somthing to navigate through the halls at Trintiy. I was thinking about using a sonar device my physics teacher has, but don't feel like cannibalizing it and not being able to fix it. We need (...)   IC startup problem

Hi again, Some new information on my problem: I have since tried using DL.EXE with a different serial port and made better progress. Though IC still will not come up after I power-cycle the board, the download completes successfully as far as DL.EXE (...) (28 years ago, 17-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
