That is the problem with NiCd rechargeables. By the time the battery
low detector kicks in, it is often too late. And they have a 'memory' so
you do want to run them down periodically. They are not recommended
for the PalmPilot for the same reason.

The Mindstorms documentation mentions somewhere that use of rechargable
batteries is possible, but with reduced power. The later part probably
refers to the lower cell voltage, as mentioned in another message:

I suspect the best reason not to use nicads in the RCX is that they have
lower voltage... 6 will have 7.2 V instead of 9, which is closer to the
brick's specified range.
