- If you are a LEGO (robotics) enthousiast and would like to get together
sometime during that week (18-22 oct) please let me know.

- Also, if you know the area, I would welcome any advice on affordable
accommedations. The hotel rates as mentioned at the MIT-site are quite
hefty. As long as it's a safe place it's good enough to me :-)

Eric and all other travellers,

I don't know if this has been officially announced yet, but the New England
Lego User's Group (NELUG) is planning to hold an open meeting the evening of
Saturday October 23rd at the MIT Media Lab after the end of the day's MindFest
activities.  I believe we have tentatively scheduled the meeting to start at
7:00 PM, and we hope that the meeting will be attended by a lot of out-of-town
visitors.  NELUG is a regional organization, but we welcome members from any
geographic location if they wish to join.  (Why not?  It doesn't cost
anything...)

If you're going to be around all week, it is quite likely that we could scare
up a few people to get together to do something before then.  I'll probably be
pretty busy trying to finish building a robot or two in time for the 'Fest,
but you can twist my arm...   There are probably a few other people in the
area who we could get together to do something around town.

As far as advice about hotel accomodations, well...  I should preface the
following comments by saying that since I have lived in the Boston area all my
life, I have limited experience actually staying in many of the local hotels.
So take my advice along with a proverbial grain of salt.  (All hotels look the
same when you're just strolling through the lobby.)  That being said:

The Kendall Square area of Cambridge is very safe, but pricey.  I believe that
the Cambridge Mariott is probably the closest hotel to the Media Lab, and it
is also right at a subway station should you wish to travel during your stay.

There are certainly less expensive hotels in Boston and Cambridge as well.
Generally speaking, the further you get from the Atlantic Ocean and from the
Charles River, (and not coincidentally, the further you get from downtown
Boston) the cheaper the hotel rates.  Unfortunately, the further out you get,
the harder it is to get around without a car.

The exception to the above rule is probably the hotels at Logan Airport (in
East Boston.)  You might find these to be a bit cheaper while still letting
you get around by public transportation.  As long as you can sleep through a
little bit of jet engine noise, this might be your best bet.

Sorry that I don't have any specific hotel names to suggest.  You might check
out http://www.boston.com for links to anything and everything you might want
to know before your trip.

And feel free to e-mail me directly for more information if I can help.  It's
probably best if you send it to me at my personal e-mail account: "chrispy at
banet.net".  (For best results, replace " at " with "@".)

I'm looking forward to meeting so many people from the online community at
MindFest.  It should be a lot of fun.

- Chris.
