The Spirit OCX is a set of libraries that easily integrate with the Microsoft Windows operating systems.
With it you can remotely control the brick (real-time) and also create standalone programs and also download them to the brick.
You can also query the status of most of the variables, sensors, communications, etc.
I'd say the SPIRIT.OCX can take full advantage of the firmware, and the only exception I now is that it cannot send the same commands (byte-codes) as the LEGO Remote Control, although the same can be accomplished by other means.

| The spirit.ocx[*] can be consider as a LEGO's official API for programming the RCX and CyberMaster. Still wondering why the RoboLab won't use the spirit.ocx. Howbout the RIS. It compiles the visual statements and expressions to byte-code and stores (...) (25 years ago, 28-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)
