Yah. The HotSync software will interfere with just about anything that uses
a serial port, as will the WinCE Services equivalent. The HotSync software
is pretty easy to disable with the tray icon. The WinCE software tends to be
more stubborn about freeing up the port to the IR tower's satisfaction, but
you can safely kill the relevant tasks without any ill effects.
I also had a problem with the IR port on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 7000)
interfering with the COM port, even though I could not find any obvious
source of hardware or software conflict. I disabled the IR port in the BIOS
and all was well once more. I'll take a closer look at that later.
