Rcx has only 3 i/o's. I was wondering if anybody had made a real
expansion board (not fake tricks with 1 light+1switch sensor on the same
port. I'd be very interested byt something more complex...) with IR
comunication ? This could add a lot of io's and could be cheaper than
buying a complete new mindstorm brick...

I tinkered with some multiplex schemes like this
http://www.plazaearth.com/usr/gasperi/MUX.HTM that simply connect different
sensors to a single input in a fixed sequence.  It workes OK for passive
sensors like touch or temperature or voltage inputs.   To make it work with
active sensors you would need an external power supply.  I guess I have not
done much more with it because I've gotten used to the RCX for what it is.

(...) Yeah, I would really like to see such an expansion too! Someone was talking about an I2C bus interface, but the thread appearently died out - Is someone working on this?. I could also think of a "dummy RCX" which cannot be programmed but will (...) (25 years ago, 6-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)
