I asked the wrong question earlier.  I *do* want to use a windows machine.
I *do not* want to use the Legos RCX windows software.  So, is there any
windows shareware that will allow me to download the firmware file?

Oop, that means I answered the wrong question earlier.

To answer your new question, you need to find some documentation on using
the OCX, then you need to write up a program that downloads the firmware
using that.  I don't know of any executables readily available, but I'm
sure they exist.  Maybe someone can post link to a utility that uses an
installed OCX and downloads a specified firmware file?

Anyways, the official OCX documentation is at:

  Direct control of IRDA

Anyone knows how to control the IRdA port directly in Win95/98? With direct control, we can control/receive RCX and other IR devices directly without using the tower. (26 years ago, 17-Nov-98, to lugnet.robotics)
