The rcx controls the rotation of the camera/rubberband gun, as well as the
trigger for the rubberband gun.  So from my computer (which has a tv tuner
card to view the picture from the camera) I can remotely aim the gun, and
fire at targets.  It's quite fun.  The rcx is controlled by the RCX Test
Panel for Mac.

An obvious project that could be based on this would be some sort of image
analysis software that would track an object and point the camera (and thus
your rubber band weapon) at it.  As a starting point something like a bright
white ball (so easy to in the image via software) could be tracked.  Being
able to approximate how far off center the ball is, and then moving the
camera to center on it, would a good challenge.

Then a next step (getting pretty fancy) would be to take apart a CCD camera
and remove the IR filter before the CCD.  You could then put on a dark red
filter or a filter which only allowed IR light, and start tracking humans or
other animals.  For examples of this search around for reports of using the
Sony handycams in Nightvision mode in daytime to "see" human skin under
clothing.

Of course either of these projects are too much for the RCX, so the
processing would have to be done on the PC, with the RCX basically being a
servo controller for your motors.

  "Wireless" camera

Hej everybody, I'm coming out of lurking mode for a while to share a robot I made. It is a "wireless" ccd video camera (it still has the power cord, but no direct wire connection to the tv) mounted on top of a heavy-duty lego turntable, whose (...) (25 years ago, 21-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)
