Hej everybody, I'm coming out of lurking mode for a while to share a robot
I made.  It is a "wireless" ccd video camera (it still has the power cord,
but no direct wire connection to the tv) mounted on top of a heavy-duty
lego turntable, whose rotation is controlled by motor.  On top of the
camera is a lego rubberband gun, complete with flashlight and motorized
trigger.  Below the camera is a light sensor, which serves no purpose
right now.
An interesting feature of the flashlight is that the point where all the
light focuses to, is where the rubberband will hit when launched.  So it
is possible to aim with very good accuracy where the rubberband is going
to hit.
The rcx controls the rotation of the camera/rubberband gun, as well as the
trigger for the rubberband gun.  So from my computer (which has a tv tuner
card to view the picture from the camera) I can remotely aim the gun, and
fire at targets.  It's quite fun.  The rcx is controlled by the RCX Test
Panel for Mac.
Next on the modification list are tractor treads instead of the turntable,
so that it is fully mobile (kind of like a tank), and a pyroelectric
sensor so that the robot can track animal/human movement on its own.  Also
on tap are dual rubberband guns, with 5 rounds per gun.  I just persuaded
the physics dept to order another mindstorms set for me, so pretty soon I
might also have a prey to hunt down.
Here are some pics:

From: One Time CR-X <hchea@ramapo.edu> (...) An obvious project that could be based on this would be some sort of image analysis software that would track an object and point the camera (and thus your rubber band weapon) at it. As a starting point (...) (25 years ago, 21-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) In fact I'm trying to do something similar. I already have the ccd-camera, but my problem is in the moment, that I don't know, how to control the RCX per PC. I thought the IR-transmitter would be to unstable, if you let the robot move around. (...) (25 years ago, 22-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)
