I have looked on the RCX and I've noticed it does say "9-12V ~". From
what I've gathered the "~" means polarity doesn't matter. My concern is

types each with a unique mA rating. (eg. 300 mA, 500 mA, 800 mA, etc.)
My question is, could the wrong mA rating damage an RCX?

No. If you take one with too small a current rating, however, you
could overload the Power Supply and fry that. Or, maybe, you'll find
that oyur batteries still drain even with the RCX plugged in :)

I would think 800 mAmps should be enough, but you can never have too
large a current-rating.

I believe that you should, indeed, be wary of oversizing an AC adapter. The simple "wall cube" is unregulated and typically employs a "just-big- enough" transformer. Voltage under light loading rises considerably above nominal, and poses a threat of (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)
