Re: AC Adapter Specs? —Sam Edwards

Re: AC Adapter Specs? —Peter Thorup
I have looked on the RCX and I've noticed it does say "9-12V ~". From what I've gathered the "~" means polarity doesn't matter. My concern is the mA rating of 9 volt adapters. Radio Shack has about 6 different types each with a unique mA rating. (...) (25 years ago, 24-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: AC Adapter Specs? —Jasper Janssen
(...) No. If you take one with too small a current rating, however, you could overload the Power Supply and fry that. Or, maybe, you'll find that oyur batteries still drain even with the RCX plugged in :) I would think 800 mAmps should be enough, (...) (25 years ago, 24-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: AC Adapter Specs? —Al Thiele
I believe that you should, indeed, be wary of oversizing an AC adapter. The simple "wall cube" is unregulated and typically employs a "just-big- enough" transformer. Voltage under light loading rises considerably above nominal, and poses a threat of (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)
