pneumatics, or is there some other set I'm overlooking?  Or is LEGO simply
dropping the pneumatic line entirely?

  I own many 8455 backhoes.  You can also buy pneumatics at bricklink.com.

  Once you get some pneumatics, you might want to look at a few sites that
feature pneumatics:
