Hi All, I am working on designing a powered caster wheel.......that is a
caster wheel that has an integral Lego motor, and wheel/tire. I am looking
to make it as compact as possible. I am using one of the 9 volt gear
motors. I have tried having the motor at the bottom, that is the wheel
attached directly connected to the wheel. Another approach I am thinking
about is to have the motor at the top of the caster, using gears and a shaft
to reach the wheel at the bottom of the design. The "lever" forces are
large and there is the problem of the motor cable, it will become wrapped
around the shaft of the caster. This has probably been done and I have not
come across it, if so please point me to the builder, or web site. If any
of you have any thoughts and/or ideas please let me know.
Thanks Jim Scolman

| (...) You may get some ideas from my page here: (URL) first design shown is what you are after: a powered caster. Its probably bigger than what you want though. The other one is an offset wheel design that would only work with a synchro robot. I (...) (22 years ago, 4-Apr-03, to lugnet.robotics)
