    compass sensor —Raphael Langerhorst
Hello! Is there a very accurate (max. +/-2°) compass sensor that can be used with the RCX? THANKS! Raphael (22 years ago, 26-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I have an early version that is pretty darned good, about +/- 3 degrees. Not bad considering the inheirent inaccuracies and backlash/slop in Lego gearing. Refreshes pretty quickly and is quite responsive to direction changes. No problem even (...) (22 years ago, 25-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Hi Dave! Three degrees sound acceptable. Can you buy this compass sensor somewhere or did you build it yourself? Do you have any schematics that I could build it myself? Any Link to a web page?          Re: compass sensor —John Barnes
The sensor element used can be found for sale at various suppliers. It is the PNI Vector 2X module. You will have to convert it's serial digital output to a format suited to use by the RCX. JB (...) (22 years ago, 26-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Hi John! Ok, I will see if I can get this thing somewhere. You have it already working I guess; could you either send me your ideas or put them somewhere on the web? Would be a great help (and time saving)! Thanks, Raphael original message: The (...) (22 years ago, 26-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

         Re: compass sensor —Steve Hassenplug
(...) Raphael, HiTechnic does sell this sensor, ready to connect to an RCX. (I doubt John would say that himself, because LUGNET rules don't allow advertising, but I'm not associated with HiTechnic.) With that said, I doubt it's a simple task to (...)          Re: compass sensor —Raphael Langerhorst
Hi Steve, thanks for your reply. Yes I know about the hightechnicstuff sensor. I am just a little worried about the 5° tolerance since I want to use it for navigation. But I have never worked with compass sensors in that way before and thus I also (...) (22 years ago, 26-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I don't know about the two degrees, but Hitechnic has a nice digital compass. 100 levels will give 3.6 degrees per count, assuming a perfect world - no nearby magnetic sources (motors being a good one) and no disturbances in the earth's (...)      the 2° come from here (URL) this one hasn't been modified to be useable with the RCX I know about the one from hitechnicstuff, but it's not accurate enough: "The heading is calculated about 6 times per second and has an accuracy of approximately 5 (...)    (...) Why do you need the accuracy? Dead reckoning type navigation? Just curious. (22 years ago, 26-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)
