Ther is a compassensor here:

But I don't know about the accurasy of it.

(...) I have an early version that is pretty darned good, about +/- 3 degrees. Not bad considering the inheirent inaccuracies and backlash/slop in Lego gearing. Refreshes pretty quickly and is quite responsive to direction changes. No problem even (...) (22 years ago, 25-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)
