Raphael,
HiTechnic does sell this sensor, ready to connect to an RCX. (I doubt John
would say that himself, because LUGNET rules don't allow advertising, but
I'm not associated with HiTechnic.)
With that said, I doubt it's a simple task to create the interface between
the compass and the RCX. Unless you think it's easy to "...convert it's
serial digital output to a format suited to use by the RCX."
Most of the stuff from HiTechnic has a built in PICs and uses surface mount
components.
I assume there are three reasons someone would want to build this sensor.
(1) They want to use a compass sensor in a robot project or (2) They want to
build a complex electronic circuit or (3) both.
If your reason for building this is #1, avoid the frustration of doing it
yourself, and buy one that's already built.
The more I read about the compass module...

...the more I want to add one to my sensor collection.

That sounds cool.

| Hi Steve, thanks for your reply. Yes I know about the hightechnicstuff sensor. I am just a little worried about the 5° tolerance since I want to use it for navigation. But I have never worked with compass sensors in that way before and thus I also (...) (22 years ago, 26-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)
