I discovered that it doesn't matter what polarity voltage is supplied
by an AC adapter connected to the RCX. Apparently, the power jack
connects to a full wave bridge rectifier.
In fact, it may work on pure AC. I notice it maintains power for a
fraction of a second after the batteries are removed, which suggests
the RCX may contain a power supply filter capacitor.
