HI,
   Thanks for the responses.
The first line of the file ROBOLAB:Engine:VI.LIB:Rcx1:Text:firmaware.txt is:
S00F00006669726D303332382E6C676F05
The first line of the file
ROBOLAB:Engine:VI.LIB:Rcx1:Text:firmaware325.txt is:
S00F00006669726D303332352E6C676F08
The last line of both files is:
S90380007C

Unfortunately, nqc seems to be having trouble downloading the firmware to
my rcx2. It tells me that:
Error: 'firmware.txt' is not a valid S-Record file
In addition MacNQC 3.0a2 can't find the Firmware folder.
   Any suggestions?

Thanks,
B.

Hi,

you can see the firmware version of the file just  b_e_f_o_r_e  you load it
into the RCX. This would spend a lot of time because every firmware download
needs more than 4 minutes with normal download speed.

In the newer versions the firmware number is within the first line of the
file. You can look at the file contents if you open the firmware file with a
text editor (for Mac with BBedit, for Windows with Wordpad)

Let's have a look at firm0328.lgo. The first line is the following

S00F00006669726D303332382E6C676F05
________________30333238__________
_________________0_3_2_8__________

In the middle you see the string 30333238 which is the hex ascii code for
the version string 0328. And this is correct in all firm032x.lgo since 0321.
In the older versions you can find such a stamp in the text file.

Hi,
Does anyone know the name of the RCX2 firmware file that came with
Robolab 2.5? There are two files called firmware.txt and firmware325.txt.
Both are dated Y2K. Is one of these the RCX2 firmware?
I'm moving from Robolab to NQC, and I want to be able to load the
firmware from within MacNQC.

Thanks,
B

Those sound like they might be firmware files.  NQC expects the firmware
to be in S-record format.  Do all the lines begin with an upper case S
and then have lots of hex digits?  If so, they are probably firmware
files.  I'm not sure why there are two of them, unless one is the
original firmware and the other is the 2.0 firmware.

If the second to last line of the file starts with S113BFF0 then its
probably the 1.0 firmware (official version 3.09).  2.0 firmware
(versions 3.2x) are larger and the second to last line will probably
start with something like S113E.

If you download the file to the RCX with NQC, it will then reset the RCX
and report the firmware version to you.

Dave

(...) NQC is picky about line endings for firmware files. On a Mac, it assumes Mac line ending, on Windows, it expects DOS endings, Unix for Unix. There are a few cross-platform combinations that work ok, but not all work. If you have BBEdit Lite, (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics)
