I hope this isn't too off topic, but has anybody actually bought and tried • out

I bought one of these with the AA battery pack for under $100 and mounted
it with rubber bands on the radio control Lego car #5600. I used a small
color composite monitor on the receiver. Then I steered it around our
office building by watching the monitor. It went down a couple of halls,
around corners, and into the building manager's office, past his secretary.
They were both a bit startled... This is about 150 feet away from the
receiver and the video was starting to break up, as was the R/C of the car.
For a total of about $170 it was a successful experiment.

We plan to use this idea in a more sophisticated robot used for autonomous
surveillance, among other things - one possible 4WD chassis is considered
at http://jcx.systronix.com, now if I cna just get the time to finish it.

I just purchased one of the wider field of view cameras for some further
experimentation. A pan and tilt mechanism would be nice too... just got one
of those from Lynxmotion.com, it uses two standard R/C servos.

There are some more expensive, compact cameras with better range - the kind
mounted to helmets of motorcycle racers, etc for example.
