I teach a grade 10 design and technology class and have an opportunity to acquire some funds for robotic kits, I've heard of Lego mindstorms and some of our high schools are using kits which I think are called Techniques? Any suggestions would (...) (23 years ago, 14-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

There are two Lego Mindstorms sets to consider: The Robotics Invention Systems (RIS) cost about $200 each and contain a ton of Lego Technics parts, a light sensor, to 'bump sensors' (switched) and two motors. I think that money would be well spent on some Dacta kits. The local college has a competition on Friday using those kits, the middle school and high school teams really seemed to have a good time. (URL) web site isn't updated yet, but i'm sure (...) (23 years ago, 14-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

It will take some advance planning on your part. Remember, LEGO Systems are made up of hundreds of small parts and none of them may be lost. You should consider pre-arranged projects and kitted parts (or something else, decided by you in advance). (...) (23 years ago, 14-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

What you want is called "Mindstorms for Schools," a.k.a. ROBOLAB. If you want to do any kind of graphing, data-collection, internet communication, journal writing, web page creation, picture-importing, code-commenting, using variables, using (...) (23 years ago, 16-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

And don't forget to buy Ben's book "Creative Projects with Lego Mindstorms." I am working my way through this text now and it is an excellent resource for not only lego design but pedagogy as well. I am considering adopting it for my College level (...) (23 years ago, 16-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)
