The CD-Rom does not explaiin how to use this piece, but in an earlier post I wrote: Ok, this is called a "Slip Gear" or "Torque Gear" It is used to prevent over rotation by means of an internal clutch, the 2.5 - 5.0 NCM I belive means the range of (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

It's not so much the "conical" gear that takes the backlash out of the setup that Bob Fay provided links to, but the ability to use the technic axles as torsion springs and keep the gear teeth in the train loaded at all times. Well, I just got some bad news from Dave 'NQC' Baum. Apparently he's a Palm developer, and he won't touch the project, because of architectural limitations in the Palm OS. Apparently NQC needs a lot more dynamically- allocated memory than the (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Why would one "never know"? This is chemistry, not astrology. Graphene sheets (the molecular unit of graphite) are quite stable and inert. Most hydrocarbon oils should also be fine for turntables and other parts with all-ABS construction (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Oil may work well on turntables, but don't use them for pneumatics. I oiled them with some kind of oil (I can't remember), and now they stick and stutter when you pull them. They seem to operate fine now, but not if they get much worse. I would not (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Graphite could work, and should be safe. I've been using it for model train couplers, which are made from Delrin. It comes in a little tube, and you sort of "puff" it on. Kadee is the manufacturer, and it should be available in the model train (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

I'm considering the ambitious undertaking of trying to port NQC to my Palm IIIx. I've gotten the RCXlib running, though the demo program seems to not be able to find my RCX 'alive'. I know GCC can be used to generate Palm apps, and NQC doesn't seem (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)
