  What kind of plastic?

Hello, Lego is ABS plastic; MEK (Methyl-Ethyl Ketone) is good for glueing it. You might want to search through the lugnet.robotics archive, as there was an extensive thread on this last year. Hope this helps, Simon (...) (24 years ago, 11-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Driving the IR tower.

You may just have to send out grabage that the RCX and Scout are programmed not to recognize and deal with, or make your own "tower" that just has infrared transistors on the end of it. This is a major problem for many things, and no way has been (...) (24 years ago, 11-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: A dream Mindstorms/Technic piece...

WOW!! That is an amazing piece of work. Have you figured out if there is a way to do it with a Technic 9V battery box, such as the one included in the Technic Space Shuttle? One thing I have noticed with some motors is that they will turn - or at (...) (24 years ago, 11-Feb-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

  Driving the IR tower.

I'm trying to drive the IR tower from a C program running on a Linux PC. I find that the IR receiver only operates when the green light is on - and that only seems to go for a split second after I send characters to the tower from the PC. The (...) (24 years ago, 11-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

March 2001 - Poptronics features Robotics - and RCX

G'Day Subject says it all, next months (on sale now) Poptronics mag. focuses on robotics, one of the articles is an "executive decision maker", basically a teeter totter driven by an RCX, (gross misuse of "The Brick" but it is a start), lots of good (...)   Re: Is an RCX Output Amplfier, possible ?

You can run about 2 motors off of one output (as the RCX goes into thermal shutdown at 500ma and each motor will (on average) draw 200ma at a stall). Sorry I can't help you with the device part, but (don't let this start flames) can't you just hook (...) (24 years ago, 9-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: A dream Mindstorms/Technic piece...

(...) Yeah, I'd thought about that, but my application was gonna include an air tank, which would alleviate the problem a bit. Without a tank, there'd probably be a noticable effect, depending on how long your lines are. I've found the Lego ones are (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

  Re: A dream Mindstorms/Technic piece...

(...) Thanks Huw! It has been improved since you saw it by adding a second compressor pump making the airflow rate far more respectable... I was never really happy with the speed of pneumatic operations when only using the one pump. Jennifer Clark (24 years ago, 10-Feb-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

  Re: A dream Mindstorms/Technic piece...

(...) That's a pretty cool idea, and it would probably shave off a stud or two of width from a compressor built in a similar configuration to mine. The only thing I have wondered about with the cylinders (and this applies to them in normal use as (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Walkers

(...) My post was to clarify the walker question, the suggestion of using the position sensor was just that. (...) The walker problem is not trivial, as you've discovered. (...) That is a correct observation, but no one wants a walker that can't (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  RE: nice tiny walker?

That little walker is quite an elegant solution. So few parts, so simple. My version users another motor as a counter balance (replace the "eye" with a geared moter). If I had more cams, I'd make this into a "caterpillar". Altavista's babelfish (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)
